Doesn't look too bad to me ... a little like a Softail Heritage ...

How does the volume of the bags compare?

I really like the 'leather' (or leather covered bags) that come on the 1997-2002 Springer Heritage ... a company named Osprey Limited makes reproductions called the Buffalo Indian Chief bags that can be customized ... http://www.ospreylimited.com/buffchief.html

The other option I like are the Road King Classic or Custom leather covered bags ... would be interested to see if they could be made to fit ...

... all that said ... not knocking your bags ... they look good ...

Great job ...

4158 CI with the new bags vs 2500 CI on the stock hard bags. Plus they have an exterior pocket on each. Another good point is they have D rings on each to lash equipment to the top of them. From the manufacture I was told that they are the same size as Heritage Bags

Wow ... a lot more volume ... 166% size of the stock bags ... that is more than adding one additional stock sized bag ...

Having used a set of leather bags, however, I'd have to wonder how well they would hold up water-tight integrity ... say, if you were to have to travel all day through a steady rain, for example ...

Chop I guess for me I would do a little Planning like I did when in the Army. Most likely keep some kind of space bag on there to keep stuff dry. And this will give you a better feel for how big these are... I wear a HD half shell and it would never fit in the hard bags. This slides right in with no problem
