To Ape or not to Ape...That is the question!?!
So, I'm kicking around the idea of putting apes on my Street Bob.
I test rode a bike (Heritage Classic) at the dealer that had them on it, and it was the first time riding anything with "real" ape's (pretty sure they were 14" apes), not the mini's that come factory on some bikes. And I must say, I really liked them.
I wasn't sure how they would feel/handle, but I was fortunate enough to get to ride the bike on a pretty curvy road that I ride quite a bit and I was pretty impressed over all with how they felt.
Anyway, I have the slammers on my bike now with a 6" rise and 2" pull back (see my sig pic), and on some of our longer rides, I start to get a little sore between my shoulder blades, so I was wondering if the apes would help with that. Also, whats the best way to measure to see how tall of a bar I want? I'm 6'2" if that helps.
So, what say ye on the apes??

I love my 12' burly narrows w/ 1" LA Chopper risers!
I asked myself that question too before I did my setup. I was into racing then I decided t cruise and not drag( not to say I don't do it once in while) but drag bars are the way to go if you are hardcore racing/hot rodding.
Love my 13" setup and would never go back. All depends what u wanna do with your ride.

For years I hated apes. Thought they looked stupid. I didn't understand why people had them. I was going to put slammers on my bike. I rode a softail with apes and loved it. I put mini apes on mine for now and can't believe how comfortable they are, and they look good. I would probably have gone to 12-14" if I had to do it again. I say go for it. Check out the classified sections here. That's where I got mine for a great price.

for your height ,16's on 2 inch risers would be about on the money ...18's if you want to stretch out a bit.
its not even a question about "if" you should . and yes they will alleviate your shoulder blade pain, at least it did mine. Thats the main reason I switched from 9 inch T bars to apes

I say do it, I'm 5'10" and I'm runnin 16" Mullet Apes from bare knuckle choppers. You'll never look back! The only thing I suggest, as someone on the forum told me... Shop Ebay and Wait... There are always bars coming across that are awesome. My bar's were sold to me at $112, they are originally $250. I just got them in the mail the other day! Ride Safe and Good Luck on your decision.
