Default Street Bob Tank Lift ??'s

Hello All,

I recently purchased and installed the 3" DK Customs tank lift on my '10 street bob. Since installation I am having a loud rattle/bang when I hit any bump in the road. I am thinking it is coming from the tank. I was wondering if anyone else has been through this and if there are any easy ways to fix it? I am thinking it is from the washers rattling around between the lift brackets, but I'm not sure. I just don't want to over tighten the bolts...

Obviously i am a novice when it comes to working on my bike but I guess everyone has to start some where. These Forums are great and have helped me with other mods.

Thanks....

If it's the washers, you need to tighten them up. 24 ft pounds is enough, and no where near over tightening.

Did you re-tighten the rear tank mount after installation?

Thank you for replying Kevin. I will try that. I will also check the rear for tightness as well. Should there be any banging coming from the tank if everything is installed correctly?

Not much can go wrong on a tank lift install. Nothing about it should make anything bang around.

If front and rear bolts are tight, next think I would look for is a wire connector in the tank channel, or below the tank channel that is not secured in place with a zip tie....maybe it could be moving and knocking into the tank when you hit a bump.

I don't have a lift but I've had a loose tank and it sounds like what you are describing. It took me a while to chase it down because I thought it was a motor mount.

I have the same problem turned out to be a loose tank... you may also want to check the instrument console.

Every bolt that you "check", once you have moved it, you should take it out and put loctite on it.

Hey Kevin, not to hijack this thread, but I am thinking about doing the 2" tank lift you guys make on my superglide. How much fuel volume if any do you loose with the front of the tank at that angle?
