Default OMG- bought a '96 dyna convertible fixer upper- where to start?

Picked up a 1996 dyna glide convertible with 44k miles for $3800. She's been outside and has some rusty bits to fix, but drives okay.

What did I just buy? My first non-vrod harley.

Where to start?

My list so far:

Service manual
All new fluids
Brake pads
Stainless brake lines
New tires
Drive belt?
Plugs/wires

Corbin seat is ripped. Looking for a nice solo seat.... Ideas?
Progressive shocks are on it
Rusty super trap exhaust - thinking about v&h full system

Is there a whole bike stainless bolt kit available? All my bolts are rusty
Can rusty head bolts be changed out one ate time?
What's the stub sticking out of the primary cover (it has fwd controls)

Fuel gauge is crazed, need a new one
Hard to find neutral- normal? Maybe fluid change will help?

What else?

Congrats on the new ride, the nub you speak of is the old shifter shaft when it had mid controls. A good wash and some CLR might help with the rusty parts, hard to find neutral could be just a cable adjustment and /or fluid change.

sounds like a good deal. fluid change may help the trans an I wouldn't worry about the belt with 44K on it, just inspect it for signs of abnormal wear.

Looks to be in good condition. A lot of the rusty bits will clean up. For smaller bolts & such, Home Depot has a decent stainless steel section I've used.

Congrats on the 'new' ride.
