Default No grease fitting on a 02 WG steering head?

Just noticed my 02 WG has no grease fitting on the steering head. Did HD do away with them?

My 2000 Sportster had one...bought it new in the winter, and decided to grease the hell out of it. I lived in Cincinnati then and all was good till summer rolled around. I ruined every damn pair of jeans I owned due to the grease leaking out.

They did away with them because when they changed the frame they made it hollow to run the wires through. I saw one a customer drilled and tapped and put a grease fitting in and filled the entire back bone of the frame with grease lol

Ha ha, so how many tubes of grease did he go through before he thought something was wrong?

I thought is was because they changed to sealed bearings that are zero maintenance, just change when they go bad.

They still have tapered bearings, even the new ones, if they were sealed we wouldn't be able to argue about fall away on this forum. you can see the hole right down through the frame in between the bearings. He went through a tube and a half before he realized something was wrong Lao that was about 8 years ago and still makes me smile when I think about it

Thats funny. I did the same thing on the wifes 01 sporty. Read the manual and it stated to pump that mother till grease ozed out the top and bottom of the neck. Ruined a couple of pairs of her jeans and she wanted to know what was going on with her bike. Told her probally something she ran over and the tire flung it up on her.

Tore it apart and took half a roll of Bountys to clean up the mess.

They only need grease about every 25000 miles......the bearing doesn't even spin............just slowly goes 1/2 turn each way. if no fitting just repack every 25000. My 85 has no fitting
