Default What to look for on '10 Fat Bob

Going to look at a 2010 Fat Bob this weekend with under 1000 miles. Been riding for a few years but this would be my first cruiser and first HD. Is there anything I should be looking for on this bike?
Thanks!

Bike is almost brand new..Check the service records and take it for a hard ride..Good choice..If not the best choice.

Might check for upgrades. I bought my Fat Bob used, and the salesman was surprised that it had Rush slip-ons and I don't think he ever knew it had the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 ac under the stock ac cover. If you are buying from an individual, he will be glad to show you any upgrades he has done.

If it has 1000 miles there should have been a 1000 mile service done, so check for that. If not, perform it yourself, it's easy.

Also, some fat bob have been known to have either drugs or cash stashed inside the fuel tank. So you can look for that on the bike.

Thanks. Interesting read on the exhaust issue. Is this very common?
Also is there a way to prevent it from happening (grade 8 bolts, loctite)?

It is very common. Fix is HT bolts as you say; Loctite doesn't fix it as the stock bolts shear off. Everyone I know with a Fat Bob (who actually rides it) has had this problem.

Also check the front and rear fenders for paint cracking and rust, even at just 1000 miles. Look down on the front fender and check the paint around the mount brackets.

If you do get it then make an early check of the front steering bearing adjustment (fall-away) as per the workshop manual. Also add checking for play on the swinging arm bushes to your regular checks as they start to go after a few K miles. Oh and block up the wiring holes in the rear fender behind the battery area otherwise you get a jet of water sprayed onto the electrics in the area every time you ride in the rain.

Hi guys,

I was about to post a similar thread as ABBob - I'm going to try a 2010 Fat Bob tomorrow as well!

The sheared bolts issue is certainly a concern. Is there anything else that the FBs are prone to?

Is there any way to check the front steering bearing adjustment on the spot, is there anything to look out for, are we talking death wobble at a certain speed?

Al

In Holland i've seen several FB's with busted rearwheel bearings, and with some bikes (with more miles on it) the motormounts. So you might wanna add that to your checklist.

and don't forget;
It's an amazing bike, once you've ridden it, you'll love it!

I just read that other thread about the studs shearing and that makes me sick about the QC in that area.
