"Retro" fit for 08 FXDC
Tough to ride when there’s a half mile of ice between the garage and the highway so Dec through Feb left time for a “Retro” fit on my 2008 FXDC.
Pics show work accomplished on the rear fender, tail lamp and turn signals, license plate bracket and front forks.
Pic 1. The butt end before.
Pic 2. Russ Wernimont Longshot fender from J&P Cycles.Comes roughed out and requires some disk work to eliminate the weld beads.
Pic 3. Drilled and ready for Color. I opted for powder coating and liked the results. Images-n-Ironfrom Las Cruces NM does good work.
Pic 4. I couldn’t find a tail lamp cowling I liked so built my own. Started with a cardboard mockup trimmed till it fit. Made a paper template from that and transferred it to sheet metal. The odd set of scrap pipes is my makeshift bender used to shape the cowl.
Pic 5. Back side of the new aluminum license plate bracket with 3 ¼” LEDs also from J&P. They work as both turn signals and supplemental break lights.
Next thread continues the project to the end.

"Retro" fit cont
As posted earler, it's tough to ride when there’s a half mile of ice between the garage and the highway so Dec through Feb left time for a “Retro” fit on my 2008 FXDC.
Pics show the end stages of my 08 FXDC winter project.
Pic 1. The new fender didn’t come down as far in front so I installed a rubber mud flap against the frame to protect the back side of the engine from road sludge.
Pic 2. All the pieces fit. Yeah, I was a little surprised too…
Pic 3. Finished product. The LED tail lamp under the cowl is from Blue Collar Bobbers. It's an exceptional product at an affordable price. Wish I owned stock in their company.
Pic 4. The front end before.
Pic 5. The front end after. Images-n-Iron power coating and boots from J&P.
Now the ice is all but gone and the Red River Run in Santa Fe is calling. Workin’ on em is fine fun but ridin’ is what they’s made fer.
