2010 Fxdwg 14"/1.5"Carlini Gangster Ape Install Experience
I had just finished installing my apes and wanted to share what I found.
I have a 2010 FXDWG Wide Glide and Installed the 1.5" 14" Gangster Apes w/ High Rollers.
All new cables were bought. I found that 10" over stock worked well but I could have gotten 8" over on the idle and throttle cables. On the brake I went with a 90 one end and 45 on the other. All seemed to go smooth. I had also bought the Harley 6" extension wire kit with plans to cut of one end and use the rest to solder onto the stock setup. This way I would only have one joint per wire and an all new factory plug with the right color coding. After install I found that I didnt even have to exend the wires. It was close but I have about 3" in the neck still. So if I went with a higher bar I would have to extend the wires for sure. I followed some of the write ups on this site but found just taking it apart was pretty simple and putting it back was also straight forward.
I had some trouble finding what worked for these bars on the wideglide so I figured this may help someone with a similar setup. After riding I found it to be alot more comfortable for I am riding more upright than hunched over from the stock bars. Im 6'-3". The 14" are right about shoulder height and put the mirrors right at eye level. It seems I have alot more leverage in turning which makes it seem quicker and easier to turn. It also gave it a more bad *** feeling to ride. Im a little concerened on the width of the bars while splitting lanes but havent done so yet with the new setup.
Some pics included.

Thanks for posting this info. I have a 2012 Wide Glide and am collecting parts to do an ape swap myself. I'm 6'3 also and was looking at 19" bars. If 14's are at your shoulder I might want to reconsider going that height. Those bars look really good. Be careful splitting lanes. 41" is pretty wide for that task.

Nice write up and information. I wanted to get the Carlini 1.5" bars like you have, but I don't know why they have the bar ends so wide. 41" seems a bit much, I thought about asking if they could make them around 38". But, I am sure I will have to go with the 1.25" bars at 36.5" width.
I'm 5'7" and talking with Jeff W at 6'+, he said he had long arms and it wasnt' bad.

The width seems real comfortable after my first couple rides. Seems to spread my arms with a nice bend. I was concerend about the width too but really the 36.5 is only 2.25" on each end difference so I figured not a whole lot. Alot wider than stock though. Still in traffic I will notice the difference while lane splitting im sure. May have to start taking longer less traveled way homes

Thanks for sharing. I think a lot of people go through the same dilemma trying to figure out what size apes, and wiring to get. If you get a chance, have a friend snap a pic of you sitting on the bike with hands on the grips. I am curious to see the angle of your arms from shoulder. I am 6'5 and believe 16" carlini's will be best fit for getting my arms straight out from shoulders.
Congrats, looks awesome!
