Default Swapping Fenders

Has anyone swapped a Dyna fender for a Softail one? I have a 2008 FXD and I want to try putting on my brother's take off 2007 Springer fender. I'm wondering if it'll be basically bolt on or if I'll end up having to drill holes in it. I think I'll also end up needing a new seat.

not sure bout 2008 fxd, but i have a full length softail fender on my shelf to graft onto my 2001 fxd. the original fender bolt holes will have to be welded up and new ones drilled, the softail has an ecm cutout that the the fxd doesnt so that giant hole will have to be filled and then just minor tweaks and cutomising to fit. i havent gotten as far as seat placment yet so cant tell you wether or not you will need a new one but with my mock ups so far it looks like i might be able to keep the original seat and just adjust the holes.

Hm, thanks a lot. I was just trying to decide if it's something I can do myself (and my relatively crappy mechanic skills) or if it's something I should see if a shop will do at a reasonable price.

i would suggest takign the fender top a shop to have the holes tig welded up and ground smooth, but the rest is easy just gotta position the fender where you want it in the struts mark where the new holes need to be and drill or cut as needed
