Default Wake up my 103 with HD parts

My current ride is pathetic after years on my 103 FXDXT...I'm now on an 08 FXDF with a 103 kit from HD that uses 254E cams and I don't know what pistons from HD were in the "kit". If I want to stay with HD parts and just wake it up a bit (bigger plans down the road...) how about 204 cams and what HD pistons would I use? Has the V&H swoopy 2-1 pipe...already have the SE race tuner, but that didn't help over the V&H that was on it...

I've got a 2010 FXDF and had the HD SE 103 Stage IV kit put on it - it has SE260 cams (details on pistons, etc, in my garage/dyno sheet in my pics). Gets 109+/104+, though the cams don't really come to life 'til around 3K RPM. Once they do though....hold on!

Is there a reason you want to stay with HD parts?
even if you have the extended warranty when They add anything it will only get a basic warranty, not added to your extended warranty unless done in the first 30 days of purchase.
In fact the HD dealer warranty is less than any builders warranty I have ever dealt with.
when I did my cams on my 07 ultra with 30,000 miles I only got 30 days of warranty. I used all HD parts.
If you are going to change things up in more detail I suggest waiting so you can do it all then. You most likely will not use what you do now when you build it later.
Just my thoughts

SE cc'ed heads, SE 204 cams, SE Pro Rockers arms. This is the dyno for that setup:

EDITED: CNC was supposed to be cc'ed

Also, who you have turne your bike is just as, if not more important than the parts used!

dirtdobber: I have a few trusted friends inside the HD network and they want me to try it "their way" this time; so I'll run with their idea's this once.

flyin1200: Access denied on your link; I must not have enough posts??? I'd like to see it though; we were talking 204 cams and some CNC HD heads; don't know what pistons...

I agree that graph looks pretty rough for a 103 with cams. Aren't the 103 pistons 10.5:1 static?

If it were me and I had to stick with HD parts, I'd go get a proven low end torque exhaust like a fat cat or maybe try out the new bobcat and put some 255 cams in there. Nice torque curve on that one right where you should be riding 90% of the time. You shouldn't need pistons to wake that bike up more than just a bit.

I stand corrected!!! Stock heads cc'ed for increases compression. NOT CNC'ed

Peak number were 100hp/114ft lbs. the dyno showed he was at and/or over 100ft lbs from 2000rpm until 5200rpm. I'd like to see a 255cam in a 103 do that....

103's are rated at 9.6:1. Depending on tolerance my indy has seen as low as 9.3:1 and as high as 9.8:1

That graph is SAE, just an FYI

I'm going to ask you Matt, why would you say a rider "should be" riding on the right side of the curve. I think we're all allowed to decide how we want to ride our own bike

Also, how much time do you spend on the right side of the curve? 6th gear at 70mph I'm already at 2700ish rpm

I think you misread my statement. I stated the 255's would benefit him most where his bike would be running 90% of the time, which is below 4k RPM's or so for most people. In no way did I tell him where to ride his bike.

Here's a dyno sheet on an all stock 103 w/ 255 cams, you'll need an account to view:
http://harleytechtalk.org/htt/index....html#msg451602. Over 100 tq early on to about 3700 RPM in SAE. It's a nice sensible, and most importantly, cheap way to fix his curve without additional headwork etc. Not peak #'s by any means, but would be a good option. Note he just wants to wake it up as he has plans down the road. .
