charcoal canister question
i was doing some minor cleaning on the bike today and was wiping down the charcoal canister and around it. when i pulled the fuel tank vent hose, gas was pouring out of the canister. about a shots worth dumped out. is this normal? i was considering removing it but if gas is going to be dumping out somewhere else id rather leave it the way it is.

Very few of us in CA ever keep the evap can for any length of time, so hard to say whether a "shot's worth" of gas is normal in the canister. But as I understand it, the gas fumes come out of the tank and enter the canister via one hose, and then are recirculated back into the intake via the other hose when engine vacuum is present (motor running). When the motor is off (no vacuum), the fumes are "trapped" in the canister and most likely accumulate as fluid. I suppose that over a period of time if the motor is not run long enough to reabsorb the collected fuel you'll end up with what you've found in your canister. With the good weather coming up this week you owe it to yourself (and your bike) to go for a nice long ride - that should reduce the pool of gas sitting down there. Or, just do what the majority of CA riders do - ditch the canister! Ride safe.
