Default Chrome wheels rust

My stock chrome wheels are getting a little crummy. Not bad but it bugs me...Got some rust, mostly on the spoke nuts. What are my options? New wheels are serious $$$.. Sux

powdercoat the rim and get stainless spokes. still cheaper than buying new wheels.

I kinda like the chrome but may need to consider powder coating. Would you suggest black? I'm just afraid of ruining the look of my ride....It has a lot of chrome on it now.

Saw a thread somewhere from a guy that did "Black Chrome" color that really popped on his rocker boxes or something.. Not sure if it was powder or paint. Would look wicked on a set of wheels.

Ask Joe, he'll be able to tell you.

black chrome is just that. But it's not a true black they can't do that, not yet anyway. It is kind of a charcoal look, sort of smokey black, but it is also more expensive than regular chrome.

To the OP, have you tried a great product called never dull. It works really well and it's cheap but it's a hell of a lot of work on spokes and stuff like that. But I guess the rust will eventually come back. Too bad I don't know a sealant that could protect chrome to recommend, I feel your pain bro.

Quote from Wikipedia:

"Petroleum jelly (acid-free)can be used to coat corrosion-prone items such as metallic trinkets, non-stainless steel blades, and gun barrels prior to storage as it serves as an excellent and inexpensive water repellent. It is used as an environmentally friendly underwater antifouling coating for motor boats and sailing yachts. It was recommended in the Porsche owner’s manual as a preservative for light alloy (alleny) anodized Fuchs wheels to protect them against corrosion from road salts and brake dust. “Every three months (after regular cleaning) the wheels should be coated with petroleum jelly.”[12]"

Screw that powercoat crap. Just get out there and use some good old elbow grease.
Then just maintain them. Shiny is always better.
