Default FXR Air Forks

Hey Ya'll...I have a 90 FXRS-SP. It does not have the air forks, I guess some did not.
I was wondering how those with the air ride forks compared to the reqular forks ? ?

My '90 FXRS-SP came equipped with the front air suspension (I think that was std equip for that model), and I retained it for about 3 or 4 years before I decided that it wasn't all that it was cracked up it to be, plus I never cared for the fill valve sticking out of the left hand grip. The design was to allow for a smooth ride, but I found that the handling suffered because of the air forks. I eventually yanked out the system, replaced the OEM springs with a set from Prog and replaced the std fork oil with the SE heavy oil. Handling was much crisper and ride quality did not really deteriorate significantly, so that's the way I kept it until I swapped the FXR for my FB. Hope that helps.
