Cool How Do You Know Your Bike Runs Cooler?

I've been reading some threads where the writer is stating that since this mod or that mod, his bike is now running 20 degrees cooler.

What I can't figure out, is, just how does he know that the bike is running "x" amount cooler than before the mod, whatever that mod may have been???

Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

Thanks!

I'd get an oil temp gauge but I wonder when I look at it? While riding? After I stopped? And would I care if it's a little cooler?

I always checked my oil temp and used a IR thermometer to check head temps next to the spark plugs. Couple months ago I got a power vision and have one of my gauges set up to read engine temp.

I mount my phone to my bars and use Harleydroid to read my head temps. Harleydroid is a free Android app but you have to make a cable and buy a wireless bluetooth ELM327 adapter. About a $30 investment and well worth it because you get much more info than just head temps. I can feel that the bike is not happy at higher temps and 20* makes a big difference.

I use the calf method. Run your bike up to operating temp & touch your bare calf to the exhaust pipe for a fraction of a second. If it just cause pain, redness, swelling and blistering its running cool. If the results are immediate white, blackened or charred skin its running hot.... Dont ask

I do the same thing, but with my *****. If they just sizzle, the temp is good. If they blister and the hairs curl, it's 20 degrees hotter.
