Im Looking into buying a 1997 fxdwg with almost 50k on it and was just wondering what the max price I should pay? It's clean with normal wearand a broken clutch lever. And has anyone had any major mechanical issues around the 50 mark? Thank for the help! Oh and its at an HD dealership
Depends I guess on what's been replaced. I can't imagine spending more than 4-5k, regardless of what's been done. Are they selling it as a mechanics special?
I have a 99 with 32000, the seals in the trans and primary on the main shaft started leaking. I would make sure to check them. It's a pain in the *** to fix yourself and expensive to have fixed.

I hope its not the mechanic special! They said all that it needs is a new clutch lever, the ball end is broken off. They are asking 8k for it.

I would not pay more than $2500. That is a definite mechanic special. With far more hidden issues. I have a 1997 FXDW and bought it will 10K miles for $9800 10 years ago. That included custom paint on all the tins. The stealer is really trying to take advantage. Just walk away.
ya. if theyre not willing to fix it before putting it out on the floor, there's probably a ton wrong with it. I believe thats what they call eating it on the back end to make money on the front end. Probably paid way too much for it on trade just to move a new bike...
