Default Arlen Ness Air Cleaner filter

So, I recently bought a new custom engraved air cleaner cover for my bike and also picked up a Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage I air cleaner kit. I installed the new A/C and noticed that covers that let you run it open won't fit since it has some lip on it and the screw hole is off center.

Did they give me the wrong filter element with the kit or am I totally missing something? The filter in the pictures I see all over the net have the filter with no lip and a centered hole for the cover screw. If I installed the bracket the original cover used the new cover would be way off center.

Thanks guys! That will teach me to buy something in the middle of the night so I have it by the weekend without doing more research.

So can I just pick up another filter at an autoparts store or do I have to order it from Ness?

Good luck.

Awesome thanks! I remember reading somewhere that the Ness filter element was just a knock off K&N and that the old Ness ACs used to come with the K&N, but I wasn't sure.

Maybe I'll try and sell the ness one on ebay or CL to make up for the extra cost in my mistake.

Good call. I'll try and give them a call tomorrow, but I bought it on amazon (since it was $30 cheaper) and their return policy says they will only take it if it hasn't been installed yet.

Looking on the K&N website, I didn't see a specific filter to replace the Ness filter, I only saw one for the SE kit. Is the K&N HD-0800 Harley Davidson High Performance Replacement Air Filter the filter I need to get so that I can put on my custom air cleaner cover? And is there much of a difference between this and an actual Ness replacement filter? The filter needs to fit the Ness kit - 18-829, which unfortunately came with a filter for the stock cover.
