I have a 2001 FXDXT. It's a recent acquisition, so I'm still figuring out what sounds correspond to what parts of the engine, and what normal operation should sound like.

I've been getting a rattle when I ride coming from the front of the bike. The rattling increases in speed with RPMs, and maxes out in terms of volume riding around 3-3.5k rpm in the lower gears. I believe I've narrowed the source down to somewhere inside the transmission casing.

Anyone have an idea what it might be, and if it's a normal sound?

 

I feel like an *** bumping my own thread, but this is gonna bug me until I figure out what it is. Thanks for any insights!
