Default 1999 FXDX gauges???

I just picked up my first Harley! A 1999 FXDX. I'm not a big fan of the bars or gauges........ Or seat lol. Anyway, here's my question: if I disconnect both gauges entirely, along with all the indicator lights, will I cause any electrical problems? With everything still work properly?

first off, welcome to the forum and congrats on your first harley! post up some pics when you figure the forum tools out. took me a while.

bars and seat can always be changed to suit your liking. i am not totally sure if you will have problems or not disconnecting stuff on something that year. what i will say is you should rethink taking all your gauges off. it's good to see what the bike is doing like rmp's. just my opinion tho!

I should have been more clear, I'm putting aftermarket speedo on (1.87 dia) and a shift light to keep the revs under control. The bike is carbed so I can't see it being an issue, however I have seen stranger things happen, that's why I ask.

I already swapped to a badlander seat and straight bars with 6" risers.

Put an FXDL tank on it if you don't like the gauges up on the bars. Thats what I did

I like my tank.... And that sounds expensive. I just want to disconnect the stock stuff and have it nice and clean.

Well, it's been a few years, I've learned a few things. One of the things that I've learned is that I never should have taken off those ****ing guages ha ha ha! Here I am 7 years later looking to buy some guages to replace the ones I got rid of. Ahhh to be young and stupid. Here's that picture I promised so long ago lol!

The real reason I'm back is to find some guages, but first I need to know what years are compatible. Anyone know what years will work for a 99? Or know of some for sale?
