Default S&S Cams in 2007 Street Bob

I have been contemplating beefing up the bike a little bit and have done a stage 1 upgrade so was thinking I'm ready to move on to the camshafts. I am liking the S&S 583CE kit but (and this may be a stupid question) I am confused on the difference between chain drive and gear drive kits. Here is the link...

Although the Andrews 26H camshafts seem to be a bit cheaper and keep it all in about the same range. The whole Easy Start thing that S&S offers I could live without unless it truly is worth it.

Anyway thanks for anything. Also, what do you guys think about either setup?

I have a set of S&S 583 chain driven cams. They are not the easy start kind, and I have the bearings too. They have 20 miles on them. I'll see if i can grab the part number on lunch. Let me know if you are interested.

Chain vs gear
chain has tensioners where gear does not use a tenssioner

The older TC's (pre-'06?) used spring-loaded chain tensioners that tended to break apart and wreak havoc in the bottom end; gear-drive cams eliminate the tensioners but require critical measurement and correction of crankshaft runout for proper installation.

Later model TC's use hydraulic tensioners which are supposedly more robust and durable (I'm hoping!) so the trend of switching to gear-drive cams is not as great as it used to be.

I just installed a set of SE-254E cams in my FB and am very satisfied with the setup - hope yours are just as nice.

585 easy starts in chain driven will be a great cam and if you do any future performance work they will be perfect if getting some head work and high comp. You will really be happy when you do high comp these cams love it.
