Anyone know the widest wheel we can fit under the FLD?

Stock wheel size is 17" diameter x 4.5" wide.

I am looking into fitting a 18x5.5" wheel but keep getting told that it cannot be done. Wide Glides, Street Bobs both can fit a 5.5" wheel, so why can't we?

I am trying to find an answer before I go drop a good chunk of change on a set of wheels only to find they won't fit. 20% restocking fees don't interest me lol

 

thinking swingarm width will be the limiter. Have you measured the clearance?

 

I don't have a FLD but do have a FLD rear fender on the Low Rider, with a 170. I can easily get my hand between the tire and fender, I think you could go 180 without a problem. Maybe someone with an FLD has a 180 or larger and can post.

 

It's not the tire that is the reason I'm being told it won't work. Has to do with the hub and pulley spacing.

HDW wheels has 18x5.5 on their site for an FLD so I'm going to call them and see what they say
