Default bike randomly idling high, help please.

this just started tonight on my way home from work. When I left it was normal. then a couple times when coming to a stop light it would idle between 1400 and 1500 rpm for a bit and then finally drop down to the normal 1000 range. Its a 2012 wide glide and the only mods are vance and hines short shots and a fuel pak. other than this weird idle issue it is running fine.

Could the fuel pak be causing this? its been almost six months since I put the pipes and fuel pak on and it has been great until now.

Hmmm, sounds lean, could be an intake rubber gone sick or the fuel pak needs a different map.

Try running it without the fuel pack.

If no improvment is noted, I'd take a look at the Throttle position sensor. Mine went south and, never tripped a code. 1/2 half hour labor and about $160 later, all better.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes....Tim(HT)

Before pulling the Fuelpak, which could be the problem anyway, try something easy first. Get some throttle body cleaner and clean the IAC, cycle the ignition a couple of times to move it around.

Could also be that the throttle lock is not fully off. That *might* keep it from fully falling back to idle
depending on how you released the throttle.. sharp release, goes to idle, slow release, hangs up..

Betcha can't guess how I know that can happen.....

Well took it for a ride today and it doesn't do it any more. I don't know what the problem was but it's gone now. Since I can't replicate the problem I have no way of knowing or figuring out what caused it. I guess I will just check the bike over and clean the IAC and call it a day.

I've had this twice on my '08 Road King. First time was after it was serviced by my Indy - leaving his workshop. We did the Microsoft cure - turn it off and re-start and it was fine, did the same thing about 2 years later, tried the same cure and it was fine. I think sometimes the computer gets a little bit confused.
