Default 6th gear mph?

feels like I don't even need 6th till I'm over 70 mph...I'm just riding an 07 street bob with the 96 ci, v&h 2 into 2 BR, and big sucker with Screamin eagle race fueler (came installed already when purchased)...feels like just to use the 6th gear I need to cruise around 80 lol....is it bad for the overdrive gear not to be used too often?

I don't use 6th unless I'm going at least 70. No harm comes from not using it. Probably more harm to the engine if you use it too often and lug your engine.

I use mine when I can just hold the throttle steady at highway type speeds. If I'm up and down hills or in light traffic, I stay in 5th to give me a little extra torque if needed. 6th usually gets hit around 60mph+ if I know I won't be messing with throttle or trying to change gear any time soon.

I felt the same way until I had my bike tuned, now I use 6th gear much more. Being you ride in Texas you should be able to use 6th gear more but you won't hurt nothing if you don't.

I would say that chances are your tune could use some tweaking

I have to be at least 65 for it to feel right, before I had it tuned it never felt right.

I have to be close to 80 before I can use 6th without lugging the engine.

65 usually 70+ flat ground cruising I'll hit it other than that I use 5'th. Never understood the guys that talk about not being able to climb a hill doing 55-60 in 6'th.
