Yup, with that many miles you are likely to need a repair along the way. Make sure your insurance has towing in case you need to get towed in to have a tire swapped or something.

Im not really a fan of repairs and towing fees. Ouch. My bike is in new condition. I think 3500 miles on it so far.

We're actually OCONUS right now and be back home real soon. Should I bring it in for change oil before the ride or after?

I would change the oil for sure before then after as well.

With a bike that new you will probably be fine, but you very well may need a new rear tire during or just after. Towing is usually free with a lot of insurance btw, I have progressive and have towing.

That's almost 500 miles per day! That's gonna be a LOT of riding. Have fun and don't forget the sun-block, aspirin, and icy hot for those sore spots! Keep hydrated during the day and I'm sure you won't have any problem sleeping at night...

You have 13 days of riding if you use a conservative estimate. Does this fit with your expected time line? A slick move would be to have your 5K service done (at about 5 or 6K ) on one of the down days on your trip. They you could have adjustments and fluid changes about half way through and again when you get home you can do the 10K.

Set some dough aside for a little upkeep. I planned some of my oil changes and did my 10K after I got home from a recent 3K trip. Worked out nice and the bike got a little bonus attention while I was asking alot of it.

Sounds like fun. Wife and I did 4200 miles in 12 days from Seattle WA to Atlanta GA. Had the bike shipped to Seattle and rode it back home. Make sure that's a new back tire on your scoot. The heat out west really heats up the road and eats a tire up. Make sure you plane some sightseeing time in your trip. There is some beautiful country to see out there, don't just zip by it. Remember, stop and smell the roses. We are already planning another trip out west we had such a great time on the first one.

That IS a lot of miles, every day too. If you fall behind schedule for some reason, you'll have a lot to make up for adding quick. I'd take a few extra days off if I were you and enjoy a little bit of a slower pace. You're going to be passing through a lot of great area, it would suck to be rushed.
