IPB failure on an 08?
Has anyone heard of the dreaded Inner Primary Bearingfailure on an 08 Dyna? My Fatbob at just 28000 miles has all the characteristics.
1) excessive noise from the primary in neutral with the clutch out.
2) pull in the clutch and shift into 1st and the noise immediately goes away.
3) shift back into neutral and still quiet.
4) release the clutch and the noise comes right back.
I'll run it up to the Boutique in the next few days to see what they say but the symptoms are exactly the same as with an 06 with IPB failure.

Being a prior 06 owner I had already been thru the compensator, stator, IPB issues previously. Now I have a 2000 FXDX with a 5 speed and decided yesterday that I was gonna go ahead and do the SE clutch spring, and Baker Inner Primary Bearing upgrade on my FXDX for peace of mind. I just dont like the Harley Inner Primary bearing. The Baker IPB is cheap insurance, and since I was already gonna have the outer cover off to do the SE clutch spring, it only cost me an a few extra bux to do it.
I would like to have a puller, but like many. I plan on cutting it off with a dremel. If I can get one of my local Harley techs to bring their puller down and do it for under 20 bux in my garage I will, but if not. The dremel will be the tool of choice.
I may even install a new belt since the old one is 13 years old, even though it has low miles on it. Dang, 178 Bux for a new belt! Looks like the oem belt with 4100 miles on it is a ok with me.

Main shaft bearing, seal and race rcvd. from Latus. Race puller/installer on order, be here tomorrow. Tore it down yesterday and found that the race had walked out about 1/4".
Also found the clutch hub spline had the first 1/4" of its teeth broken off. Looks like another round of parts ordering - new clutch hub (37554-06A) and bearing (37906-90), SE compensator, Barnet clutch spring?. Clutch plates and friction disks seem OK to reuse. I'm still on the fence with the 30 tooth pulley. There's plenty of reports of after market belts failing with the Andrews pulley, but I haven't heard of any with the stock belt.
