Default removing rear fender mounting bracket for signal

hey guys go a question, I'm going to be removing my rear fender bracket for the rear turn signals to powder coat them black, my question is do i need to have the bike up on a stand to do it or can it be on the kick stand? i'm not sure how to go about it and i don't want to **** anything up. Are they easy to remove or is it a bitch?
