Default 2012 FXDB Charcoal Canister Removal

I was in the process of removing the charcoal filter from the front of my 2012 Street Bob when I came across a sensor behind the cool pack. Is it safe to simply remove the hoses and leave as is or will I get a check engine light?

better check with CA DMV, it's my impression you need the canister to pass CA smog. at least that's the way I remember from my short time in San Diego

Scoots still aren't required to be smogged here in CA. I think it would be fine having that sensor basically open to the atmosphere. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Default Thanks WS6

Thanks WS6, I've read that tutorial before. Question is, when you refer to the "valve" is that the small sensor thing behind the coil pack? So its ok to leave it open to the atmosphere.

The only valve on my bike is near the front of the tank (see below photo). It looks like the new bikes have a solenoid operated valve on the California only bikes. I would disconnect the hoses on the solenoid and see if you get a engine code, if no code disconnect the wiring to the solenoid and if you get a code you can just leave the solenoid wired in place or remove it if no code and install the 49 state version below.

49 state gas tank vent hose

#11 TUBE, VALVE-TO-COMMON POINT (EXCEPT CALIFORNIA & ASIA-PACIFIC)
#16 VAPOR VALVE

California gas tank vent assembly
#2 VENT LINE ASSEMBLY, COMMON PART TO CANISTER
#8 VENT LINE ASSEMBLY, TO THROTTLE BODY
#11 VAPOR ORIFICE
