Default Taking the Wide Glide in for a brake job...

Hello riders.

im getting some new tires on my 2011 WG and figured a brake job as well. my bike has only 6k on it and the brakes look allrite but I figured what the hell. Since im having Fort Thunder Harley in Moore OK do it am I stuck buying the HD OEM brakes or do they offer a better choice at the Dealership besides the HD brand?

Why are you changing the pads at only 6K miles? Is there a problem with performance? If so, I would NOT go back to OEM.
Plenty of threads on pads if you search, but I would say leave them be my $.02

I would leave the pads as well. My bike has almost 11,000 miles and the pads still look good.

actually no problems with the braking. and your not the only one to tell me why change at 6k.lol I was just mainly curious if the dealership only carried the oem HD brakes or if they offer a better brand?

Why change the brakes at 6,000 miles?
They should be good for 20,000-30,000 miles.

You should get at least 20K on the pads. When it's time to change, Lyndall and EBC are both good choices.

Changed my pads at 25,000. I went to aftermarket pads.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but can changing the pads to aftermarket pads help stopping power or should I just get new calipers. I'm a big guy, 6-02 and 270 lbs or so, and braking is not the best for me and I often ride two up and even though my wife is small, it sure lacks braking power I think.

@ mercyfulfate Most HD dealers will only offer HD brake parts, especially on a bike under warranty. And 6K is way soon as others have already said. Unless you use only the rear brake, then it may wear out more quickly.

@ DM1975 Lyndall and ebc make great pads for HD and all kinds of bikes, but if you really need more stopping power you should consider pads and new discs. Lyndall racing brake discs combined with their pads are a huge upgrade. The pads are about 60 a pair (front) and the discs about 400$ a piece.
