Default Street Bob Rear Fender

Can anybody point me to a thread for what people are doing to cut their rear fenders down that have the stress crack issues? I see the many different threads of people reporting theirs cracking and how many they have had to replace, etc.

My second fender has cracked and I’m out of warranty. I love my rear third taillight, but apparently it’s not going to work out to keep it. I probably should have been proactive and cut the rear plate at least and moved it, but it’s too late now.

So, any tips on going about cutting down the fender possibly specifically with this issue in mind and plate relocation? Threads on the topic? Maybe just threads generally about cutting a fender down is what I should search for?

If I like my rear taillight; would it be a nearly sure be tthat a new fender and moving the plate to a side mount would not be a total waste of money? Will the later model fenders with reinforcement brackets even fit an ’09?

I’m open to options…. But I hate the witch’s wart fender personally. That’s not one of them.

You should be able to get a new fender still. It's a known problem and I think technically the factory warranty covers power train only anyways.

Don't know about now, but years ago I remember someone telling me that Sportsters used to sometimes suffer from this problem.

sometime in 2012 harley reinforced the fender you have with a support, harley will still replace it even though its out of warranty....or get a 2013 or 2007 fender and you will just have to pay the difference from harley

Say what? They will replace with the reinforced fender? The service guy I spoke to in Tulsa didn't mention this. I've seen the reinforced fender and posted pics of it last summer I believe.

I bought a fender from a guy who took it of his new SB (09 I think it was) because he was doing a rad custom job to it. Finally got round to fitting it on my 07 couple years ago and recently noticed the fender was also cracked both sides where the light mount is..don't think Harley will replace mine in that type of scenario even if they DO know the problem...sucks big time !!!

If were to attempt to fabricate somesort of bracing underneath this now cracked fender and use an epoxyto hold it in place – what would be the chances of it working andwhat suggestions would any of you have in attempting it?

I've already decided that at a minimumI'm going to have to do a side mount for the license plate. It'snever going to hold up to that vibration.

Default Rear Fender

Are the 11 SB rear fender prone to cracking, my warranty is about to expire? Got about 9,600 miles haven't noticed any problems yet.
