Post The old gear-driven cams vs hydraulic tensioners question

After reading this board and others, and contemplating going to gear-driven cams in my 2007 FXDWG, I've decided to stick with the chain-drive, hydro-tensioners.

My shaft runout is within tolerances, now. But my thinking is that if I don't have it trued, plugged and welded, it eventually will go out of tolerance and eat up the gear drive.

Am I on the right track here?

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Harley put the hydraulic upgrade in the 07?

My .2008 FXD has the Hydraulic tensioners and when I did my 50k mile service on my bike they looked excellent. I believe there is no need for the gear driven setup if you have the hydraulic tensioners. I thought the Hydraulic tensioners came out in 2008 but not 100% sure on that. They also went to a better chain and pad material as well.

When the 96" was introduced, it was hydraulic tensioned. the 88" had the spring tension. HD has since introduced a retro kit to convert 88" spring tensioned bikes to hydraulic

Default Thanks

Yea, the 07 was the first year for the hydro tensioners. The nagging thought that with a gear-drive and not getting the flywheel done, is a problem in the making, I'm sticking with hydro. And as someone pointed out, makes it easier for me to replace them if needed.

I just needed to sound off!
thanks

2006 was the first year for dynas with hydraulic tensioners/roller chains. 2007 for everyone else.
