Embarassing Shock Removal Question
So maybe I'm a total *****... I'm trying to get my rear shocks off (first time) to re-paint my strut covers, and that top bolt will NOT budge. I WD-40'd it, I jacked the rear wheel off the ground and the thing will not move.
Is there some simple stupid trick I'm missing or do you think it's just going to take brute strength to battle the 6 years of rust?

uhhh, I don't know..maybe I'm missing a step...everything online shows a Torx bolt going through the top, but mine's a 3/4 hex chrome cover...does that cover come out somehow first?
mine looks like this:
but reference diagrams look like this. Part # 15 should be there....

just did this yesterday. not sure if that is a cover over the actual bolt or not. if that is the actual bolt, remove seat and spray the inside of the bolt where you see it going through the frame with wd/pb blaster. use a long ratchet with correct size socket (12 point) and grab a long bar with open end and slide bar over ratchet for leverage. go at it. I tried just a ratchet with socket and it wouldnt budge. i put a 3ft bar over the ratchet and gave it a crank and it loosened it. If that is a chrome cover over the actual bolt head than im not quite sure. hope this helps

No no... theres no way part 15 is accurate. That 3/4 bolt that you are looking at is the right bolt. Just throw some elbow grease on there and it'll crack loose. Its just a nut, seated on about 4-5 threads maybe. Once you crack it loose, you'll probably be able to spin it off with your fingers and that'll leave you the bolt you slide the shock off of. It 'might' help if you took out the bottom mount bolt, and tried wiggling the shock a bit, maybe its angled on there somethin fierce and its making it harder than it should be...
