hey guys. The bike in my sig was my fathers. Its a 1980 Wide Glide. Its all factory and pretty much all original. The engine and transmission have been rebuilt just because my dad had the time and money. Paint is factory, and original to the bike. Im not real savvy on Harleys so I will turn to the experts.
My question is this: how common/uncommon is this particular bike? what are your thoughts on this bike (pros/cons)?
I have heard mixed opinions about this but not from any reputable sources. Thanks guys

I once had that same year and model bike. I really liked it. Later i had both the motor built and added 6 more inches to the forks. Then i loved it. It was one the few bikes i wished i never got rid of. Now i have a twincam with EFI i like the bike but HATE !!! The EFI i am damned close to my last straw on it and well it just maybe a carb bike come spring.

- SFO (Sh** Falling Off)
- Wiring and battery connections coming loose
- Petcock clogs/cracks/corrosion
- Frame welds/cracks
I had a '79 Low Rider. Great bike, but the stuff listed above can and will happen.
Use loctite on every fastener you remove and reinstall.
Check your battery connections weekly.
Inspect frame welds every 1000 miles or so.
Remove and clean the petcock at each service.
Ride it!!!!!
BTW. The shovelhead makes a great S&S power platform. A couple grand in work will have you well ahead of many stock twin-cam bikes.
