Default front brake master cylinder gasket... 33$?

so, I noticed a little brake fluid around the master cylinder cover and went to hd to get a new gasket... told me that they don't sell just a gasket, have to get the whole top with gasket... 33 dollars for what should have a cheap little fix, a simple gasket... i bought the damn thing, but am wondering if there is anyone that makes, and or sells just the gasket ... given the corrosive nature of brake fluid, im sure ill be replacing both the front and rear again sometime in the future...

If you do a search you will find out that it is a weeknes that our mashines have. If you disassemble the cover and gasket and clean bougth pieces.. Then assemble it and this time when you tighten the two screws you only use 2 fingers on your screwdriver. Only tighten untill you see the gasket "deforming". Very gentle like you feel you dont tighten it enough.. Now your master cylinder is not leaking anymore good luck

I, along with many others, have had better luck with the replacement than the original. Had it (chrome version) on for 1.5 yrs and not a drip.

+1 what Danish sez, those screws only get about 8 INCH lbs. of torque, not much at all.

They deform each time you take it on/off. I'd had my original on/off about 10 times following the 8in lb torque rule. .it finally gave, couldn't get it to seal no matter what. Tried removing, cleaning, drying. .bought a new one and it was perfect right away. No leaks.

Agree with puffdaddy, the chrome replacement version works very well and worth every penny, also agree with 8 inch lb torque value.
