Really need some opinions on rear shocks
Ok, I really want to lower the Street Bob... I'm having a tough time deciding between the Progressive 412 11", Burly Slammer Kit 10.5" or the Progressive 430 11"...
Price is an issue as well... I'm not wanting to spend $400+ on rear shocks.
I can get the whole slammer kit front and rear for $240, the 412's (rear only) for $230 and the 430's for around $390...
I do some two up riding, (I'm 175 wife is 135) but the majority is solo riding... Can you guys give me your personal experiences with these different setups please?

The progressive 412 has a one year warranty as where the 430 has a life time warranty to my understanding.
i know the 412 has a one year and the 440 has a life time so I am assuming the 430 has a life time warranty to.
Solo the hd will do good but not so good 2 up.
I have used the progressive 11 inch 412 and they did good. Not on a hd though.

I've used both the 11in 412 w/heavy duty springs and 12in 440's with both standard and heavy duty springs.I could not tell the diff in ride quality between the two models. And we have rough roads here. I'd go with the 412's if I were to buy shocks again. I did have to send the 440's back after two years use, one was messed up. Rebuild was free. Never had a prob with the 412's other than not enuf travel for our rough roads.

I went with 12" progressives and a 2" lowering block kit. You could keep your stock suspension too, and use the lowering blocks. You'll get the slammed look, and the suspension travel of a larger shock. I've ran it this way for 15,000 miles many 2up, it looks great and performs better than a short shock.
Lowering blocks can be found on amazon or ebay for less than $60

Ive been through the mill on lowering shocks.....to tell you the truth..most of them suck.....lowering blocks are worse, because they change the angle of the shock which degrades the performance of the spring in any shock and makes them much softer, increasing bottoming out and damaging the fender wiring if any of it runs over the top of the tire, like a Street Bob. I know this from experience, I burnt through the wiring, bottomed the front left corner of the fender on the belt guard..nothing but problems......If you are going to use lowering shocks, te ride is gonna suck anyone so spend as little as possible, Progressive makes the shocks for Drag Specialties, Biker's Choice and Custom Chrome. They look just like the Slammer Shocks, because Burly is owned by Progressive....basically they are 412 shocks with no bottom cup. I had them on my Street Bob, the road like **** but the bike looked cool slammed down.....If you ride your bike a lot you will hate them and so will your back....if you ride back and forth to the beach, bars and bike nights then you can probably survive with them....

^^ Obviously make sure your bike is set up to run lower. A lot of people over look things like clearance and making sure your wiring is secured out of the way. As for the blocks degrading the performance of the spring, I can't in any measurable way tell how one would be able to notice the difference. Plus, with the shocks being adjustable, if its too soft, then firm them up. Again, 15k miles of experience here... My bike rides more comfortable than stock, other than the occasional speed bump you need to watch for.
