Default What causes primary chain slap in '06 Dyna?

What causes primary chain slap in '06 Dyna, 16K miles? I can hear in when I shift from 1st to 2nd, sometimes 2nd to 3rd. The primary chain is rubbing on the case below the front compensator sprocket. Always something... Thank you.

Probably loose and needs adjusting. Got a shop manual?

edit: oh crap, it's an 06. You might have the auto adjuster.

Anyway a shop manual will help.

If the chain is hitting the case your primary chain tensioner must be shot

Definitely sounds like the auto tensioner is malfunctioning. Have read where the early year units were problematic and have since been upgraded. You might have to pull yours out for a look-see and replace with a newer version.

Thought I just read in American Iron magazine the HD adjuster was replaced with an aftermarket item from Hayden.

Just did this repair on my 06 lowrider. Hayden chain tensioner part # M6-BT07. Found it on Ebay for $108.

Looks like the one from Hayden has the same issue of the primary chain hitting the lower inner primary case.
