New HD OEM Dyna FloorBoards
Hi Gang,
I was informed by my local stealership on Mother's day (big swap meet) about the new Floorboards that Harley was offering for the later Dyna models (I think due to the Switchback). So I plopped down my $400 and ordered some.
FAST FORWARD to the end of July. Got a call that my floorboards were finally in. I made an apt. for the install (estimated to be 1.5 hours).
Brought my 08 Superglide in at 9:30 and handed over the fob.
a little after 3:00 I finally got my bike out.
Problem 1 - After removing all of my stock parts and installing Most of the new floorboard conversion, the 'grease monkey' discovered that the right floorboard mount hit my lower Samson pipe. I was consulted (now it was nearly 5 hours into the surgery) and told him to just inlet the pipe (ball peen surgery) to make it fit. (crude but I needed to get home and my bike was in pieces in the shop). More than 1 hour later (for 1 more bolt?) I get my bike back. Instead of following my suggestion, the monkey cut off my lower exhaust pipe mount and used a spacer to raise the upper pipe nearly an inch. The lower pipe was resting on the floorboard mount and not connected to any other mount, just the cylinder head. I rode home listening to the rattle of the pipe and vowing never to go the the 'stealership' again.
(did I mention the $450 bill for the 'installation'?).
So, here's my dilemma.
Has anyone else installed these new floorboards?
I have the original exhaust from the bike in a box, completely un-assembled.
Will the OEM exhaust fit OK with these floorboards?
Will Full Radius pipes fit?
If I remove my beloved groundpounders (I just spent $90 to
put small baffles in to appease the local bears) and 'indent a channel' for the floorboard mount will it mess up my back pressure (I suspect)?
Any experiences will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brig

Not to be rude but why didn`t you research what pipes fit with the footboards?
Yes, your stock exhaust will fit these footboards with no problems.
There are a few good threads with pics on this forum that deal with Mods to make the footboards fit. Use the search function. Good luck and keep us updated with pics.

It was a Dumb Impulse buy
Thanks for the info.
I had the bike in for a new speedo, which they did in acceptable time.
I told the service guy that I was planning to install JP Cycle floorboard set.
He looked my bike over and told me that HD offered a set that would fit it.
I took his word and plopped down my $$ to order them. I figured it would be worth an extra $100 to have the 'experts' install them. He never mentioned they would be on order for 2 months and every time I called to check on them I got 'they should be in any day'.
I argued about the price and they said the 1.5 hour estimate was wrong. Flat rate shows 3 and their excuse for the extra time was the pipe issue, which if I had been installing them myself I would have ball-peened an indentation in 5 minutes.
I needed my ride to get home and after sitting in the sun for nearly 6 hours, was ready to get the hell out of there.v
I've dug out the OEM exhaust and will put it on for now.
Learned my lesson about the GMH Stealership in VT also.
Funny how all the horror stories about customer abuse show up AFTER I get hosed. I have been told that Wilkins in Barre is good, so next time I HAVE to go to a dealership, it will be there.
Regards
