Default Need fender ideas/fixes

This winter I added saddle bags to my cycle and had to figure out a new way to mount up my directionals. I decided to mount them on my fender which turned out to be a big mistake. Yesterday I heard a vibration/rattle and found my fender had cracked just behind the light. Now I need to come up with a way to fix/resolve this issue. Just looking for some ideas.

Thinking I could have the fender fixed and reinforced then repainted. Maybe put on a super glide fender instead but then I don't know what to do with my directional and plate.

Any ideas or pics are appreciated.

Should I drill a hole at the end of the current crack to keep it from getting worse until I can get it fixed??

Drilling a stop hole would be a good idea. As for the lights, I don't now what to tell yo other than to look for a different way to incorporate turn sigs onto your bike. Something like this would work. http://www.radiantz.com/index1.html?c17.html&1 or you could save some cash and pick you a cheap metal plate frame for around $10, get two Trueflex 10 LED stripes (come in red or amber and with either red case or smoke case) (part number TF10) for $15 each and two TrueFlex Dual Converters (to avoind the need for a price converter for the LED's) (part number TFC1) for $5 each. Everything would run you around $50 (without shipping) and a little of your own labor. Put one LED strip on each side of the frame running vertical like on the radiantz frame. Here is a link to the LED lights and the convertor and a video of how my current setup is.

I mounted mine directly to the fender similar to what you did (I have a Super Glide, so it has the full fender) but I used much smaller aftermarket lights. So far so good.

Get the fender fixed and install a strengthening bridge inside of the fender.

I'm guessing by bridge you are meaning welding a piece of metal to the inside of the fender between the strut and the signal?

So dumb question probably but what year superglide fender would i need if I decided to do that route instead?

Depends what is cheaper, new fender or having a shop do the welding for me.

Thanks for the replies

Just a piece of round stock bent in a U with a hole at each end that the blinker bolt goes through to support the blinker. A hammer and a drill and lots of bending would get it done. IMO a blinker is too heavy to be supported by the fender with no support. I feel for you. Sux *****.

Well live and learn. I should have known better. Guess my winter plans of cams and apes goes down the drain now.
