Smile Need buying advice 97 wide glide

Hey guys and gals new to the hd forums. I have a 02 v star 1100 that's approaching 20000 miles. It needs a tune up pretty bad and I have a feeling ill be dumping some good money into it soon. My buddy's client has a 1997 wide glide that was given to him as a payment. He know nothing about bikes and wants 4k for it. I don't know too much about it but it has 50k miles but looks very clean in the pics. And it looks stock. Are there any red flags I should look for when I go to look at it and test ride it? My buddy has the same exact bike ironically so I already know I love the way they ride. Thanks all and nice to join the forum.

Is 50k miles something to be concerned with? I know it depends on how well it's been taken care of but in general is that a fair price?

I'd jump over it if I had the green...or lived in the States...I say go for it.

The '97 should have a 1340 in it. in my opinion, the Evolution motor is the best one out there as far as reliability. If she's been took care of, the miles wouldn't bother me at all.

That's a damn good price. Bring your buddy for the test ride, since he has the same bike.

Hey

I picked up a 97 Wide Glide with 28,000 miles on it....paid $6800..but it was modded....extra screaming eagle upgrades....almost same bike your looking at.

What it needed was... a belt....neck bearings...rear brake switch...and an inner primary seal leaks one drop per ride. Nothing that kept me from riding.

With that price....you can afford to repair what is needed later....but be ready to turn a wrench.

Great price "if" its been taken care of. Pay to have a pro to check it over, and then shovel him the money if it checks out. Only money you should put in your Yamaharley is to buy a chain to turn it into a boat anchor!!!

Haha I actually like my vstar. It's been great for me and I got a great deal on it. I've been able to do upgrades and learn a lot about what I like and don't like. But there is something about a Harley that makes me feel giddy inside. Maybe it's from the concussion I had when I slipped on all the oil they leak

Just playin I can't wait to join the club. Hope it all checks out. Thanks for the input guys.

Here's another view. Is it stock as anyone can tell? Is it easy to remove that headlight visor?

Also... What size are the stock bars? I'd want to put 12" or 14" apes on it can you get away with stock cables and wiring for 12s? Are they 1" bars? And do they require the dimples?
