Default Time for a new motor...need help!

Okay, long story short after 5 years of nickel and diming me to death and 90K hard miles my bottom end in my 2000 wide glide took a **** on Saturday and left me bikeless for the first time in 15 years…

Now I know I have a billion options as far as fixing it goes but I do have a few questions.

First: I do have access to a 96” motor out of a 2008 StreetGlide that I can have for next to nothing but is it even possible to get it to work in my bike? Converting it to carburation all the sensors ect., any idea what it would actually take to do this?

Second: Besides S&S is there anyone who puts out acomplete kit (flywheel included)? Who should I avoid? If I’m going to rebuild it I’m going to replace everything but the cases. I don’t have unlimited funds but I know It’s not going to be cheap.

Last: I have seen some builders who say they have upgraded the cam plate and oil pump using a 2009 set up. Is this an option for my bike?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I’m also just considering buying a used motor on ebay and updating it to match what I had…i.e. cams, heads, pistons, beathers, ect. I am good with a wrench and spent some time wrenching on evo’s professionally but never liked motor work beyond top ends… So this will be a learning process. Any words of wisdom are welcome.

Best I can gather the crank bushings went out causing a lot of play in the rear connecting rod, had a huge "shelf" that developed in the back of the rear cylinder and snapped a couple of rings and also pushed the pin clip out of the primary side of the piston pin. the debris froze the oil pump and its shot as well as bending the push rods on the back cylinder. it all happened in the 3 miles from my house to the gas station.

I don't have a problem reusing the fly wheel but everything else is going to be replaced.

I've looked at them in the past but for the same money I can get a much better built motor with more power. I average at least 20-25k miles a year on this bike and don't want to keep having the same problems with the factory equipment.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Whats your price range? I would say look into a newer 103 bottom end and do a 107 bigbore from Fuelmoto or something.

Looking to stay under 5K like I said I have access to a near brand new 96" F/I motor but wouldn't know where to start, trying to convert it to work in my bike.

Any motor work you need, any performance parts you need, JIMS has the best.
Complete motors, anything.

From what I have heard the newer 96 motors will not bolt up to your tranny.

I too have just rebuilt my motor 1 month ago due to inner cam bearing letting go and taking out the complete motor including the crank, cost was 5k but included SE cams the new style tensioner set up with SE oil pump and screaming eagle inner cam bearings and new lifters, pistons ,making for a solid motor, our 99 to 03 motors have one of the best cranks out there and they were built with the timkin crank bearings. If you pulled out your own motor and reinstalled the 5k would not apply would be more like 4k

For me it was cheaper to rebuild mine than go with a reman motor that has a stock cam and those cheap inner cam bearings

I have seen used motors on Ebay, my only issue with those are no warranty buyer beware

JIMS makes a killer 131 if it were me, id look into bulletproofing the bottom end with JIMS parts, true and weld flywheels, and get a fuelmoto top end. or just a simple rebuild with mild performance upgrades.
