I have the stock mini apes (I think) 10" with a 1" riser. can I up to 12" apes with the stock cables? or even 13" or 14"? and what diameter are the handle bars?

You should be able to, I did a 2" riser with my '12 fxdb and stock cables and was fine. I have 15" Santee Bonanza II's on it now and the clutch is fine, only had to do the throttle cables.

The bars are 1".
