Default New 2014 Super Glide Custom

Well, today my wife and I are off to search for a 14 Super Glide Custom in two tone red. Actually it is Mysterious Red Sunglo/Blackended Cayenne Sunglo.

This will be my 4th and final Harley since we will be retiring soon and we want to buy all our toys and have everything paid off when we retire. I have owned a 99 custom 1200, a 04 Ultra Classic, and an 08 Softail Custom. So the Dyna is a model I haven't owned yet, and besides I have a Goldwing for long trips with the wife when we go cross country.
Like the sound of the massive 103 starting and love the unbalanced motor.
Looked at the Limited and loved it but can't get reverse with that heavy of a bike and I have a bad back and can't muscle that much weight or it would be a 13 Limited since they are selling them here for $23,500.00 for two tone color and they have a few left over.

Anyways....any ideas on best prices (Sales) in Southern California, things to look out for like $900 for setup and nitrogen! WOW.

Maybe weight in on different options or any other input?

Thanks
Ron

Is money a issue? They most likely aren`t dealing much on the just released 2014`s, especially where your from.

Default Maybe get a leftover 2013?

I bought a 2013 two tone in June and paid $12,500 with the smooth wheel option. The dealer added $800 for set up, freight, etc. It was still a good deal. Yes, my bike is a 96 cu.in. But if you can save a couple of thousand you will have money for windshield, backrest, pipes, air cleaner and tuner. Here is my two tone 2013.

Taxes, registration, assembly, dealer prep, shipping, etc. It's easier just to shop for the total out the door price, you don't need to hear the dealers nonsense.

The MSRP from Harley is 13,949. By the time they get you for tax, lic and set up you will exceed 16 K is my guess. The trick is to get them to throw some goodies in. Make them outfit you and the wife with new leathers. With their markup on leather it should be easy.

Well, the dealer is now trying to convince me to take a 13 model and wants to build the engine to a 103. He is checking into a price for a 13 with a 103 Stage 2 kit, and he would sell it to me for less than a 14 model. I don't think it can be done but he says it can. I am looking at the parts catalog they gave me and it says the bike would then jump to 80 hp and close to 96 ft lbs of torque. It would all be stock Harley factory parts, and covered under the full warranty since it is new. I am waiting on a call back for them to find the bike in the color I want and a price for the bike with the kit. They said it would be Tuesday.

This is the second dealer that has asked to sell me a 13 with a 103 kit instead of them getting me a 14. Maybe they would make money quicker this way since the bike I want may not be in until the end of Sept. or Oct.

What do you think of that?

Stage 2 is pipes, intake, cams, and a tune.

Using HD SE parts and a flash tune (no tuner), this can be done fairly cheap
- SE slip-ins = $400 estimated
- SE intake = $200
- SE cams = $329
- Flash tune estimated at $150 (Cost HD nothing.)

Total parts roughly $1050 - 1100

Labor for all is maybe 10 hours. They charge $75-85 per hour, but their cost is way less.

The 2013 model should be marked down about $1500 from MSRP.

A few pieces of advice
Make sure his stage 2 claim includes the cams.
Get a tuner and tune rather than just a flash tune (unless you never plan to mod the intake, pipes or other engine parts

In the end, the 13 and 14 models are identical except paint. You aren't giving up anything be choosing a 13 model.

This is changing a 96 to a 103 with a stage 2 engine. The Stage 2 big bore kit would include changing the cylinders, pistons, cams, and clutch spring. Part # 27545-08. The kit list as $949.95. Then there is labor, a computer download, and misc. parts they say would be about an additional $300.00....and then I have added some other incentives for me like forward controls, a new chrome primary cover with no hole in it, and the complete set of 103 engine badging similar to the 14 models, so it would in fact look like a 103 engine. The only difference would be a 13 color paint job and registration. I have estimated the parts to be retail at over $2,100.00.

I just don't see how they could do it.

Oh, and no pipes..........here in good ol Californy.......it is against the law to sell pipes for Dynas....even screaming eagles. They said I would have to get those somewhere else.

If it were me, I would get what I want. Not settle for what they can do. But that is just me. I really don`t like compromising once I have made a decision.

It looks bad on paper, but their cost is far less than retail.

A Stage 1 is pipes, intake and tune. I'm not sure how they get to stage 2 without doing stage 1. Either way, if they can do it for cheaper than a 14; why not? It seems like a lot of work just to move a year end close out.
