Default Back from 3600 mile trip

Bought a 2009 Fat Bob to make the trip since my FXDX was having a small electrical issue we couldn't nail down in time for me to leave.

The trip was a blast. We left Detroit, hauled through Canada all the way to Rouse's Point NY the first night. From there we toured all of New England, all the way to Eastport, ME and back through PA and Ohio. I'll post up some pics later.

At this time I'm contemplating if I should keep both Dynas or sell one or the other. I really liked the FXDF on the trip, very smooth riding and I think it would handle great with a few mods.

The stock 96ci was a dog though compared to my other bike, I was constantly waiting for the power band to kick in.

It's a tough call, the EFI spoiled me as I was able to climb Mt Washington with no worries, and it fired up flawless every single time. The carby sometimes takes a little coaxing to get going. I also know that any HD dealer can do service on a 09 FXDF, while my bike is getting to be a relic to most of the new techs. I am going to keep them both for awhile and see what happens. If I sold the DX though, I could use half that money to get the Fat Bob exactly like I want it right away. Basically I would do motor work (maybe keep it fairly mild this time), powder coating, WG fender, and a fairing of some type.

I know the frames are not drastically different, but I took the wife for a ride on the fat bob when I got home, and the thing was night and day different. I did not feel cramped up at all on this bike like I do riding 2up on the DX.

I think that in this case I would probably go with the newer bike.

Like you said, the EFI is nice and the beefier forks, etc.

If the Bob is completely stock, maybe you can do the pipes and filter and see if that will satisfy you and still allow you to keep the FXDX...and chop up into a bobber!

I actually already have a Bassani pipe for the Fat Bob, so that is a plus.

Man, there is no way I would bob out an FXDX, if I kept it I would do some ridiculous motor work to it and make it a full hot rod.

Tough call.

You could apply the proceeds from the FXDX to a killer Fat Bob build. On the other hand, if you're going to black it out and go with a club theme, keep the bike that's already their.

I guess it depends on your vision of the bike you see yourself riding, and which one gets you to that goal.

if your already able to keep both, keep em!! that way you have the hot rod and the bike you can jump on and take long trips comfortably on.

I'll start a new thread on this, keep this one for pics of the trip when I get around to uploading them, kind of two different topics!
