Question Seat removal and install???

I got a new seat and found it very difficult to remove the stock seat because of the seat strap.

How is the best way to remove seat?
What do you do about the strap other than wrestle it off and try not to scratch up your paint while doing so?

And in turn putting on a new different seat... Best way to deal with the strap?

I tried searching and did not get any results.

usually you just remove the screw and slide it out, slide new one in and put screw back in. dont know what kinda strap is causing problems.

ya just gotta kinda wiggle it out. then remove the bolt holding the seat strap in. then attach new seat.

if you squeeze hard the seat will bend some making it easier to get out.

I'm thinking most people get rid of the strap....but yeah wiggle and squeeze. Looks better with out one IMHO. Your lady wont use it, she'll be hanging on to you.

Exactly, just reach in there and loosen the bolt that the strap is connected to, then don't reattach... seat looks better with out (IMO).

I was like you when I first took the seat off, I thought jeez... how awkward it was to have those straps bolted to the fender!!

My old softail had them bolted to the underside of the seat and it was not nearly as difficult to remove the seat.

Take the strap off or tuck it underneath and leave it. It's useless and look better without it.

"Best way to deal with the strap?" Send it back to the '70's because I am sure there is a Honda somewhere that is missing one! LOL! The intention from the factory is to give the passenger something to hold onto. I don't know about you, but every passenger I have ever had on the back of my bikes had their arms around my waist (yep only women!). If there is frequently going to be a passenger then either a removable or perminently attached sissy bar. Therefore the strap can go into your trash pail.

Because of the wide rear pillion on the Switchback, I was able to keep my strap switching between the stock seat and the Mustang but you might not be able too, so cut the strap and trash it. or If you must have it, wiggle your stock seat out( remove the fender screw, pull back and release the tank end of the seat, then twist the stock seat out of the strap{cup the rear bracket with your hand so you don't scratch the fender} ) With the seat off you'll be able to see the post and how adjust the strap. Then reverse the process to install the new seat.

And let me know how you like it.... That seat was really comfortable for a stocker.

Doesn't a Dyna seat strap come off with "one screw" like others...??
