Default Random Starting Problem '12 FXDWG

I have a 2012 FXDWG and on some start ups it loses power

1. Turn ignition on
2. Run switch on
3. Bike in Neutral
4. Fuel pump primed and red light on gauge is off
5. Hit the Start push button, get a loud click and lose all power for a brief second. Gauge display gets reset back to odm but doesn't erase time and trips
7. Hit the Start push button again and it cranks with no problems

This problem is very random and is about 1 out of every 20 cranks. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I've noticed a couple times I'm slowly rolling backwards when this problem happens.

Not a huge problem cause it powers right up after, but would like to know whats going on. Maybe a faulty starter relay?

Bike has 2000 miles and it started around 100

Mods:
Vance & Hines Short Shots
SE Stage 1 Air Kit
K&N Air Filter
SEPST
Factory alarm

Yes, I also have this problem. I noticed when the bike stay i garage longer then two weaks, alarm exhauste the battery , and maybe (just i thinking) the battery have not enough power to start the engine. After all, I start bike after two weak without any problem, then If I stop after one minute or two and try to start the bike again this happens.

Yeah, mine seems to happen after a ride and sitting for a very short period. Like pulling up to garage, turning off to walk inside to open door, and then upon restarting this happens but not all the time.

have you checked your battery terminal connections? Sounds a lot like what mine did after the dealer left one of the battery wires loose.

I checked the connection between the cable and battery, the connection was weak. I fixed it and I'll let you know what happened. Greetings.

If it keeps giving you issues, I found that a cheapo $20 gel cell battery conditioner works great to keep the battery strength high. My WG would go from full charge to not being able to start after only 20 minutes of leaving the lights on, so it might be fairly easy to run it low.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Battery terminals are tight and key fob has a new battery. I'll start putting it on the battery tender everytime it's sitting in the garage and see if that fixes it.

I'm going to go with a starter problem. Solenoid, relay or other.

A low battery is a low battery. It typically won't go from click to crank like you described. A loose connection might, but not a low battery.

The daily battery tender is a good practice. Especially if you do a lot of short rides.

I recently had a starting issue and turned out to be the FOB battery. I did check battery connections (both sides), also another member mentioned he had to replace the starter relay when he had issues.
