Changing FXLR w/apes to...
I traded this:
for this:
It's a 1990 FXLR low rider w/25Kmi.
It has a SE Mikuni 42mm. flatslide and SE intake and filter. An Andrews EV27 cam and drag pipes. The motor and trans. seem strong but I'm looking to change the bike into something that handles better with lower bars and maybe some mid-controls and longer shocks.
Right now the kill switch wire leading under the tank into a wiring block connector is loose and the bike cuts out sometimes. You can get it going by pushing on the wire into the block from just outside the tank.I'm going to have to drain and remove the tank to repair. any advice?
What's the widest rubber (front and rear) I can install?
Thanks
John

john where in Vt are your from? yes you can repair the switch, ensure you use new water proof connector. if it needs to be replaced, I like using a new block and getting the proper pin puller from radio shack type places. I think the widest is 150 ish on the tire.......I keep getting conflicting info.

I owned a 91 FXR, great ride you picked up there! 140 rear will bolt on easily, 150 will fit but you may have play with wheel spacers etc to get it centered and not rub, and make sure your strut fender bolts don't hit when it bottoms the suspension. On the front it looks like you have a 21" wheel so you will have to go with a tire that fits that.
Those shocks look short, changing those out will help the handling a lot right off. Make sure all your motor mounts and stabilizers are good before doing anything else!
