My new 03 WD has a cough.
My new to me 03 WG has a slight cough ( for lack of better words). It only does it once in a while as most of the time its as smooth as silk. The dealer said it has set in the show room for about 3 months and suggested just putting miles on it to see if it goes away. They filled the tank with fuel but don't know if its the good stuff. I ran half out the first day and refilled with good fuel and a half bottle of Sea Foam. I put about 60 highway miles on it today and it seems alot better but its still there. Is it to soon to worry about it or should I let a mech. take a look?
Sorry my description is ***ue but its just a cough, like a cold engine, usually just once, maybe twice and it is smooth again?? It happens at a stop sign when taking off and sometimes when changing gears at moderate speeds, never under higher RPM's or cruising.

Need more info , like does it have a high flow air filter and pipes, and is the cough coming from the carb, if so it is usally an indication of running a little lean, this can be fixed by turning the fuel/air mixture screw out.i fixed my carb cough/fart by installing 1 size larger pilot jet,
Also it could be an air leak at the manifold, easy to check by using a spray can of wd40 or carb cleaner and spraying it on the intake books at the heads , if engine stumbles or increase in speed then you have an intake leak
hope this helps

Factory AC but it does have SE slip ons. Would an intake leak not be present at all speeds? This "cough" is just once in a while. Its not like all the time. I rode for an hour and no cough then left a light and as I shifted into 3rd, it coughed once and continued on. Doesn't seem to serious, just want it gone.

Ok good, then just adjust the air/fuel mixture, turn the screw out 1/8 turn at a time, this should help remove most carb farts, if you have to turn the screw out more than 3 times then you need to increase the pilot jet size
