Default Had an unexpected problem today

Well my 06 dyna stator bolts finally backed out. I assumed. I heard a noise from the front cylinder and primary that sounded like a thrown rod bearing. So anyway, I tore the bike down and eventually saw that three of the bolts had backed out. I faire well though because it didn't take out the stator. So off to the welding shop and the bolts were back in. I took the advantage of having everything torn apart to put in my Hayden m6 tensioner that I got from one of the guys on here and a screamin eagle clutch spring. All in all it took me a few hours not including going to harley to get a new compensator bolt (which was a bitch to get off) and a quart of primary fluid. The Hayden m6 is smooth and it feels like it shifts smoother but it is a little louder. Oh well.

You surely got lucky with the stator. The Hayden will quiet down in about 500 miles or so.

I am so surprised you had this problem. According to Harley Davidson corporate, the 2006 Dyna's have absolutely no problems with compensator cup screws backing out or IPB failures. According to the factory.. what you experienced is an ISOLATED INCIDENT!!!

Hope this doesn't upset you. Maybe I'm wrong.

Aren't these (some of) the bolts that need to be replaced each time you assemble and torque them? Did you check the service manual?

Not sure applying heat and a welding bead is really the correct or safe way to fix this issue. New bolts and locktite are what I believe is the correct repair.

And then again I may be wrong, but it was the first thing I thought of when seeing the rotor bolts with welds on them.

tack welding the bolts is a common repair method on 06 models as well as upgrading to the redesigned 07 and up stator

Always learning!

I'd upgrade to a more reliable updated version.
