Default Idle...how low can you go?

I have my bike set at factory idle reading anywhere from 970 - 1030 according to the tach.

I thought if I lowered the idle, it might sound a little better at idle.

What could I lower it to and still not have any problems.

On a 13 can I lower the idle and not affect the computer?

do not touch the idle screw !! these are pre set to allow proper air gap around the throttle blade! It will F-up the tps readings and cause all kinds of issues!! Lowering the idle will also decrease the oil flow to the top of the engine during idling. Not a good idea......

once warmed up, mine idles about 950, doesn't sound as good as a shovel, but you can hear the loping and sounds much better than before the stage IV

Only way to adjust idle is with a tuner that allows you to do so through the ECM...as someone else mentioned, do NOT mess with the idle screw!
You can idle it down some with a tuner, but the lower the RPMs, the less oiling you're going to have. IMO, on a modern HD anything less than 900 is too low for proper oiling.
Mine idles at 1,000 & I'll keep it that way.

with the powervision I tried only once to lower it to 800 for the sake of it. Guess what it doesn't do potato-potato and I know I'm starving the engine of oil when its temperature is rising the quickest as no air is cooling it down. so what's the point?
Idle now back to 1000.

Great Thanks,
This is why it is best to ask questions first before messing with it.
I am sure I would have screwed it up and then had to take it to the dealer and then of course I would have to sign my bank account over to them to get it fixed.

Thanks again.

900s about as low as you would want to go. Even then, most cant tell the difference in sound with just a 100 rpm difference, even at 850, doubt you could tell. IF you want a more loping sound, put in a cam. Or buy an EVO.
