Default TW555 or S&S 583 cams in 103"

For those of you who have them, what do ya think?

There is only a smal chance i'll do a 107" kit and ported heads (fuel moto) but i aure am lusting for it, but dor now i'm doing cams, primo rivera pro clutch and lyndall disks.

Somebody also suggested s&s 585 cams . I'm looking for low-mid cams, been searching the forum for weeks.

What y'all think?

If you want an educated answer vs. speculation then your better off asking this in the engine forum where the gear heads and performance shops hang out, not here.

Wolfmojo just had his motor done with the S&S 585's. He's got a 98" build with stage 2 heads though so I dont know how torque curve and numbers would compare to a stock 103" but here's a link to his post: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/12032362-post3023.html , looks like he ran off at 116 tq / 106 hp.

Big difference between those 2 cams. The specs on the 583 lean heavily towards a low rpm heavy(2 up) bagger type cam. The 555s are more of low to mid rpm performer - many happy dynas run these.

Awesome, yeah, that's about what i found so far. And also not sure how the 585 would run without head work

585s need compression so either headwork or at least something like new head gaskets and a Big Bore kit. Plus with that big of cam you may have to worry about valve/piston clearance using your stock flat top pistons. If you are not going to do headwork I would stick with a cam that has no more than about .560" lift and an Intake Valve closing no more than about 43 degrees on the cam specs.

I have the 583cams in my 07 dyna. Am really happy with the feel of the bike. Pulls really well. Was running a heavy breather intake and short shot pipes. Have attached the dyno chart. Got 100ft/ibs torque 85hp.
Have just put 106 kit on now and changed pipes to 2 into 1 comp pipe. Getting dyno'ed next week again.

Can you reload that picture? Can't read it... Was your 07 a 96" at the time of that dyno? I'm thinking of doing the S&S 583 or 222 woods cam

Wow, thank you guys. Though some of it is over my head, i can show my indy. Lots of good info.

I did also get a recommendation for the 222 from fuel moto, but i wanna leave the doors open in case i do motor work one day. Apparently the 222 kicks in about 4-500rpm sooner than the 555
