Default 2014 Street bob dash in earlier model bike

Ok so I was eyeballing 14' SB's today at the dealership and I noticed they have moved the ignition from the neck to the dash! I was thinking (didn't ask parts) that you could purchase the dash and key assembly from a 14' model and retro-fit it to an earlier model SB. I know this has been done before as a mod by stealing the components off another bike and re routing the ignition.

Anyone seen, thought or done this yet? Maybe by chance anyone have a manual to see how it's all wired up?

The '13 model has it in the dash too. My manual is a '12 version.

It's been done by a few people though. You can also cut a hole in your dash and install a newer ignition.

Our Harley dealer here is very helpful ; they will show you the exploded views of whatever you want and offer all the necessary parts for installation of your project. You do not have to buy the parts from them , but , usually it is a good idea to get a proper fit ! Just my method for this type of operation !

All you would really need is the dash, ignition switch, a new decal for the fork lock, and the wires will have to be extended a little bit. There are a few write ups on here about it. I cut a hole in my stock dash and bought a generic ignition switch. Paid under $50 after all was said and done. Of course, I would rather have the factory dash and switch, but mine works fine and you can't beat the price.

I know this has been done before using non-street bob switches, the guy told me they just started doing that on 14' models. So I was thinking it could possibly be done with simply soldering extra wire on the neck ignition and routing to the new dash/switch assembly.

I'll search for the older method, thanks for the help

Well I answered my own question, the 2012 and later models switch cannot retro-fit onto earlier years because Harley switched to CAN-BUS wiring system on 12' models, the switch nor the harness would be backwards compatible. The dash on the other hand would be but at nearly $300 a pop I'd rather just drill my current dash.
