Default Help with progressive 412 shocks...........

good evening Riders,

I am wanting to buy some Progressive 412 shocks (black) for my 2011 wide glide.Im 6.2 320 lbs. would I get the longer shock or do they sell a heavy duty type shock? I don't want to lower it I want it to be above stock height and be able to handle my weight with no bottoming out even with a passenger. Not sure which ones to get. Also, do they come with an adjustment wrench?

thanks in advance.

They sell a 412HD (heavy duty), probably start at the third setting and see how that works for you. I have the 412HD in stock height and when we are two up the shocks are at the second setting. I also put the Progressive front springs in (stock height) and changed the fork oil to 10w Belray. The bike rides pretty nice. 02 Superglide.

The wide glide shocks suck.
Mine came with 11 inch shocks went to 12 inch, better but still not what I wanted. Went to the 12.6 412. That did the trick, ride is so much better. No bottoming out now.

I'd recommend getting something better than the 412s if you can stretch to it. They really are entry-level shocks, no better than stock.

I've found they are either too hard or, when dialled down a little, they bottom out.

I've got to agree with this. I've spent some time on a bike with Progressive 412 shocks and wasn't impressed.

Why is everyone falling all over themselves over the 412's?

Has anyone ever even looked at Hagon? They build one to specs for length and spring rate for less than the cost of the 412s. Call them up, tell them what you have, want or need and they will build a pair of shock just for you. Spring rates availabe range from 10 kg/cm to 35 kg/cm with your choice of any combination of black and/or chrome.

The $199 Type SA use a quadrate progressive action springs, double sealed nitrogen cell, automatic compression & rebound damping control with hard chrome piston rod.

The best buy at $299 is the adjustabe 2810. For $100 more they add 10 position damping control with automatic compression & rebound balance.

edit: There are some 11.5" 440-4053's on eBay right now. Two days left with no bids at $100. Check your fitment but they have a 300/350 spring rate.

Yes they do make heavy duty ones for your bike. I'm 6'1'' and 255 and that is what I just put on my bike. Haven't ridden it yet, too much snow.

I am kinda new at this HD thing but for the money the 412s did what I needed them to. When we are two up the bike doesn't bottom out on speed bumps any more. It also provided a better ride than the stock shocks.
Just my $.02.

Mercyfulfate,

We offer a Heavy duty application for your bike. The heavy duty application is recommended for bikes that are operated at or near the manufacturer's maximum load rating over 50% of the time. I would recommended going with the heavy duty springs for your bike. I also like the 12.6" long shock on this bike it will give you more travel and a better ride over your 12" stock ride heigh. This will lift the rear end of the bike up some, so please not this. The part number for the 12.6" hd 412 is 412-4048B/C and if you want the 12" the part number is 412-4044B/C.
